My ServiceNow Story: Matt Taylor, Service Delivery Manager

Updated: Aug 30, 2021

The team at GlideFast Consulting is full of passionate, skilled, and enthusiastic developers and architects. If there is one thing that we all have in common, it is our love for the ServiceNow platform and community. “My ServiceNow Story” is a blog series that will give you an inside look of the work and lives of the consultants at GlideFast Consulting and how they started and built their careers in the industry. Our consultants will share their stories with you and will lead you down the path that brought them to where they are today.

This ServiceNow Story features Matt Taylor, Service Delivery Manager, based out of Cincinnati, OH.

How were you first introduced to ServiceNow? What was your first job using the platform?

I was first introduced to ServiceNow while at CloudPires, which was also my first job in this space. I had never heard of ServiceNow before, but my dad suggested I look into it. I started with CloudPires in their Junior Developer Program, and it was an eye-opening experience. I found I really liked developing in the platform, and I learned a ton — both in the program as well as from working with customers.

What other jobs have you had working with ServiceNow?

This is my first experience working with the ServiceNow platform; however, I've been working with technology for around 10 years now. Previously, I was a radio operator in the Army but was also responsible for maintaining the computers my unit used, making sure broken devices were repaired and that various software behaved as expected/desired.

Following my career in the Army, I worked as a systems administrator for a K-12 school district for 4.5 years, after which I began my career in ServiceNow development. Over the last couple of years, I have had a chance to learn about and work in different modules of the platform and obtain certifications to implement various different things. It really is impressive how much you can do with the ServiceNow platform.

What are your primary ServiceNow skills?

My skills in the platform include working in ITSM, CSM, some PPM, some integrations, and dabbling in Service Portal a few times. I have implementation certifications in Service Mapping and FSM, as well as the CSA and CAD, and around 9 micro certs. I primarily enjoy working on integrations and backend development in general. I can find my way through to good solutions on the front-end, which can be fun, but I still prefer the backend.

What are your plans for the future in your career and in the ServiceNow industry?

In the last year, I have had the opportunity to work in a leadership/mentorship role, and I have enjoyed it immensely. Right now, I am working with the training department to get the Technical Consultant Program portion of the GlideFast Consulting University up and running to start training a new group of aspiring Technical Consultants. The goal is to get them up to speed and prepare them to work with our customers and develop great solutions in the ServiceNow platform.

Eventually, I will want to get back into working with our customers on their projects too. Further, I hope to take on more responsibility in the future and continue to help my fellow developers learn and grow in their careers.
