This ServiceNow Story features Jared Shafton, Director of IT, based out of Winter Garden, FL.
How were you first introduced to ServiceNow? What was your first job using the platform?
I worked for an MSP that provided support for mobile phones; we used a homegrown access database as a ticketing system to track issues. I got put in charge of sourcing and implementing an ITSM Solution. That's when I first found out about ServiceNow. We didn't choose to go with the ServiceNow platform, but some of our customers used it. As part of the implementation of the platform we selected, I was tasked with integrating EasyVista with ServiceNow via SOAP to remove the need to swivel chairs and log tickets in two platforms.
What other jobs have you had working with ServiceNow?
After implementing and integrating those two platforms, I realized the potential in the ServiceNow space and got an admin job. That position sent me to Knowledge 2015 in Vegas. That's where I met Mike and Lloyd, who as it turned out used to work on the environment I then oversaw. After three years as an admin, Mike and Lloyd asked me to join the team –more than once. Looking back, I should have joined sooner.
What are your primary ServiceNow skills?
I do a lot of work on PPM as well as custom applications like our CRM or SafeSpace which were built by me.
What are your plans for the future in your career and in the ServiceNow industry?
There are no future plans – we're on a rocket ship. You don't get off the ride in the middle of space. But ServiceNow will only continue to grow so I just hope to continue learning.
